Travel
Advice and Immunisation
If you are planning to travel abroad then
ideally you should book an appointment with the nurse at least 6 weeks
before you travel.
If you wish to see a nurse for travel advice then please either download
the attached form and return the completed form to the surgery or if you
prefer you can collect a form at reception.

Either way can you please ensure that the
completed form is received at least 2 to 3 days before your consultation
with the nurse.
 |
Travel advice is available at the
surgery. If possible consult the practice nurse at least two
months prior to your departure. You will be advised on health
matters related to the countries you are visiting and
arrangements made for the vaccinations required. Some of these
take time to become effective and need a course of treatment.
You may be required and requested to pay for vaccinations or
medication which are not available under the NHS. |
Diarrhoea
Replacement of fluids is essential. Replacement of lost electrolytes is
also advisable in the form of Dioralyte, Rehidrat and similar
preparations.
Food, Water and Hygiene
Food and water can be responsible for passing on certain diseases. It is
wise to drink bottled water or to sterilise all water; take great care
with vegetables, salads, ice, meat, fish and all re-heated food. We
recommend all overland travellers to carry a first aid kit with basic
preparations and observe a high standard of personal hygiene.
HIV Risk
This is insignificant for most travellers to most countries. However,
for prolonged stays in Africa and certain other countries, some
precautionary measures are recommended and medical advice is available
at the surgery.
Please Note: It is important to obtain the full course of injections for
maximum protection against each disease.
Malaria
Please note that if you require a prescription for Malaria, which is
being issued solely in anticipation of the onset of the ailment whilst
outside the UK, but for which the patient does not require treatment
when the medication is prescribed there will be a fee for issuing the
prescription.
Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is present in 32 African countries and ten South and
Central American countries. People can die from Yellow Fever.
Book your Yellow Fever vaccine now if you are travelling to
one of these countries – along with other travel immunisations
needed.
The Yellow Fever Vaccine is £55.
